COWBOY was saved from Dallas Animal Services on 5th March 2015.
COWBOY is a handsome, young, long-haired / plush coated German Shepherd Dog. He is full of energy and was just so happy when he got to the rescue to meet all of the dogs. He was never aggressive or fearful, but accepted their smelling in his stride. He was just as eager to do his own smelling of the dogs too.
COWBOY doesn't like being in a crate, this might just be as it was his firts night, but he was not happy and clawing and biting at the crate gate for some time. The crate he was in is an XL crate and was in the bedroom where myself and some of the other dogs were so it isn't like he was left alone. He did eventually settle down but was very happy to be out of it the next morning. I rarely use crates at the rescue, but he didn't arrive until late at night and it was too dark to do proper introductions with the dogs.
COWBOY enjoys playing and running around, he especially enjoys playing with the smaller 4-5month old pups. Although at times he gets a little rough, he does adjust and stop if they let him know to take it easy.
COWBOY doesn't have any training and he is in that kind of puppy-wild-over-excited kind of phase, which is pretty typical for German Shepherd Dogs that haven't had much exposure or training and they come to rescue with all the dogs and are just so happy to be able to play and run around.
COWBOY needs a family that understands both the mental and physical needs of the German Shepherd Dog and are able to provide him with lots of exercise, which is a lot more than just throwing a ball in the back-yard, he needs lots of stimulation, and going to different places and letting him take in the sights, sounds and smells the world has is a great way to do this, along training! COWBOY does need a family that is able to spend time and work with him on basic and advanced training. This not only helps form a stronger bond, but also allows boundaries and expectations to be set and for both human and dog to learn each others body language and personalities.
We do not have cats in the rescue so we are unable to comment on how he would behave around them.
COWBOY is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm tested negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 1st May 2014 and at the time of rescue weighed 62.2 pounds.
COWBOY is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $450.
