PANTHA was saved from BARC Animal Shelter in Houston on 24th February 2015. I had been up during the early hours catching up on paperwork and decided to send the rescue hold on her before I went to bed. It is very lucky that I did as this is the response I got from the shelter first thing the following morning:

A1298048 was scheduled to be PTS today but I have placed a hold for your group. Below are notes from our behaviorist on the dog. We are full to capacity in our eva luation building so if possible to pick up today by 530pm it will be appreciated. If you cant today then as early as 9am on Tuesday is ok. Please confirm you can pull A1298048.

Notes from Behaviorist at BARC Animal Shelter, Houston - 22 February 2015

This dog is very fearful, but likes people and dogs. She may be sound-sensitive, or just extremely stressed at BARC. She does not cooperate with having a leash put on, but can be conditioned into it quickly. She eats chicken in her kennel, but once out does not. She will walk with me on a leash, but does not want to go through doors - but can be coaxed. She does not want to go outside, mostly wants to go back to her kennel - but will calm and explore after some time out in the hall. She readily goes up to people and solicits affection, but she is too big and too scared to go to Adoptions - she has not been defensive yet, but she is too close to defense to put in adoptions with all the excitement there.

Since being at the rescue PANTHA has been a different dog than has been described at the shelter, which is quite common since German Shepherd Dogs do not do well in shelter environments.

PANTHA is comfortable with the other dogs of all ages and sizes here at the rescue. She is extremely affectionate and likes to be close by my side whenever she can - although that is true for all the other German Shepherd Dogs we have in rescue also. PANTHA eats with the other dogs, she sleeps with the other dogs and has not shown any fear or aggression on any level.

PANTHA is very gentle and well mannered, she doesn't jump up, she walks nicely on a leash. All dogs benefit from basic and advanced obedience training with their new families. This not only helps with bonding, but sets boundaries and expectations. It also allows human and dog to learn each others body languages and personalities which is key to a happy life together.

We do not have cats in the rescue so we cannot comment on how she will act around them. Although she hasn't been around small children here at the rescue, I do not see any problems due to her gentle demeanor, but this will of course depend on how the children respect and treat her.

PANTHA will benefit from a family that is active and understands the mental and physical needs of the German Shepherd Dog. Who have the time to take her to different places so she can explore and take in the sights, smells and sounds of the world.

PANTHA is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed and heart-worm tested negative. She has a date of birth of approximately 23rd February 2012 and at the time or rescue weighed 70 pounds.

PANTHA is available for adoption for an adoption fee of $350
