STARLA was saved from San Antonio Animal Care Services literally an hour before they was going to kill her. They had labelled her as having distemper due to her walking funny and "fly biting". When I got there to pick her up it was clear to me that she had been injured in her hips or back legs and would need x-rays and surgery. I researched the fly-biting and this could be due to trauma, a bad habit (like dogs chasing their tails) or a mild form of epilepsy.
STARLA was taken to the vets and x-rays showed she had both of her hips were dislocated and her pelvis was broken. She had surgery which entailed her hips being "toggled" back into the sockets to hopefully stop them keep falling out and had plates on her pelvis.
STARLA is an amazing girl and was walking around within days. It has been several months since she had the surgery and she has been fantastic, no problems at all, she gets around as if nothing had happened. STARLA is however, extremely thin, this is due to her being so starved and her stomach having shrunk so much, it will take a long time for her to gain the weight and get to how she should be. Nonetheless she eats well, she is on joint supplements and immune support supplements, she gets on great with all the dogs and doesn't even mind small puppies climbing all over her.
STARLA is extremely affectionate she will follow me around and when I am sat down she has to be lying as close as physically possible and if she is able she will either lean, or have some part of her body touching my foot/leg. She can get vocal if she is in the way and other dogs are trying to get past her, but that just adds to her personality.
STARLA still does the "fly-biting" and it really is unknown what it truly is and what caused it. We have tried her on anti-seizure medications and they didn't do anything to help this, other than make her very dosile from the drugs. So, she has not had any medications and although the fly biting can be regular or sparce it doesn't seem to worry her at all.
She loves to cuddle on the bed and just be wherever I am. She will do well with a family that wants a velco-dog, one that has got so much love to give and will always be by your side. All she wants in return is love and caring, she enjoys car rides and is very friendly with people and children.
She has not been round cats since we don't have them at the rescue, however, I am not sure if she would care about them. If she did I don't think it would be difficult thing to get her out of, but that would depend on the family and how much time they had to put into working with her. STARLA loves to go on walks and of course until she has gained her full weight the distance should be gradual and at her own pace.
STARLA is spayed, rabies, up to date on vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm tested Negative and micro-chipped.
STARLA is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption donation of $350
