LIBERTY was saved from San Antonio animal care services with suspected hip problems as she wasn't standing up. When the shelter released her after her 3 day stray hold, I picked her up and took her to my vets for xrays.
It was shown that her hips were in great condition, however, she did have a broken vertebrae. She was booked in to Mission Veterinary Specialist to see a neuro surgeon.
The prognosis was that since she gets around and she is showing no pain, there really is no need to operate as the surgery could cause more damage and of course a lot of pain and discomfort throughout the recovery. Since LIBERTY had been at the vets for a week, she was given 5 more weeks of crate rest and then if she had not deteriorated in any way, then she would be good to go. If there was any signs of pain or discomfort then she would be taken in for more tests and a decision on the best course of action to be taken.
Luckily LIBERTY and that super high spirit of hers has done great, she hated being in the crate as she really is a social young girl. You would never know to look at her that she had a broken vertebrae and at some time must have been in a tremendous amount of pain.
LIBERTY has a slight arch in her back where the bone isn't there, it has basically crumbled, and as she walks every now and again her back legs give in a little bit, but it causes her no trouble, it's as if she is tripping over her feet.
LIBERTY loves to be as close as she can, she will sleep at the side of the bed and would most definitely snuggle up beside me if I let her up there, or should I say if "my" dogs let her up there lol.
She loves to run and play, which is amazing when you look at the xray and know her injury. She has never shown any kind of aggression, nothing but pure love.
She is aged around 1 year old and due to her injury is not likely to grow any more. LIBERTY has been scheduled to be spayed this week and will be available for adoption around 15th April 2013.
She has been heartworm tested - NEGATIVE, had her core vaccines, rabies, and microchip.
LIBERTY's adoption donation is $250
