Loni’s Story

Loni is a German Shepherd dog who is approximately 9 months old (as of 11/19/11).  She was rescued by a local Bastrop woman who noticed that Loni spent all her time chained to a tree.  The woman approached the owner and he said he no longer wanted the dog and signed an owner surrender form, turning her over to GIVE A DOG A HOME Rescue.  Loni is now being fostered in Elgin.

Loni is a great example of everything a German Shepherd is.  She is a very quick learner, eager to please and truly appreciates her new life of freedom from chains.  As with all foster dogs, Loni was spayed, has received all of her shots and was micro chipped.  Following her spay procedure, Loni was weighed (58 lbs) and checked by a local veteran for general health.  She appeared to be in excellent health with only minor abrasions to her rear left leg, caused by the chains.  It was apparent she had never been bathed or properly cared for.  During the following few weeks, Loni’s ears were cleaned, and she was professionally groomed.   In home training has begun and although we have made progress, she still has a lot to learn.  Training is a great way to bond with a new dog and obedience classes are always highly recommended when acquiring a new best friend.

We soon learned that Loni was a treasure to have.  She is enjoying her new life and has rewarded us with love, devotion and a great personality.  She has learned so many things in a short period of time:  sit, stay, down, down/stay during meals at the table, use of a doggie door, use of a SUV ramp for entry and exit and is continuing to impress us with her alertness and quick ability to grasp new ideas and commands.  Loni is also housebroken.  She has never experienced dog toys and fun games and as a result, we have tried to give her many new experiences, showing her that not all people are bad.  She consistently shows love and is receptive to a gentle touch.

If you are searching for a lovable, loyal, fun companion, look no further.  Once Loni gets into your heart, she will be there forever.  If it were not for our resident dog’s aggressive behavior towards other dogs, we would adopt her ourselves.  Loni loves her people.  This little treasure will not last long.  Loni can be seen by appointment.  She is growing fast.  You must see her while she is still a pup and you will not be disappointed.

Foster Parents

Elgin, TX

We hope to find LONI a perfect family, that treats her as part of the family, and to give her the love and devotion that she will give to you.

German Shepherds need plenty of physcical and mental exercise, otherwise they get bored, and can then become destructive.

LONI will only be adopted out as an INSIDE DOG, no dogs with GaDaH will be adopted out to live as an outside dog.

If you would like to come and visit LONI and get a feel for her loving, devoted personality - please email Jenny - giveadogahome@live.com, I will then pass on your information to your amazing, awesome, super foster parents who will contact you to arrange a meeting.

LONI's minimum, adoption donation is $250

Please refer to the Give a Dog a Home - San Antonio, website for the application process. Updates will be posted as we learn more about her personality.
