BRUNO came to the rescue from a State of Maine seizure case whilst he was on hold pending a court order. He was at the rescue around a month and then transferred to the rescue. He was saved from a home where he and 41 other dogs and cats were living in a single-wide trailer.

BRUNO has been estimated to be around 3-5 years old and weighs 70.5 pounds. He has had his rabies, core vaccines, blood and 4dx testing and is negative for heartworm disease, but tested positive for Anaplasma phagocytophilum / platys tick disease. Although he is not showing any symptoms, he is on the antibiotic, doxycycline for 30 days as a precaution, since we do not know when he was bitten by a tick.  A copy of his blood work and 4dx will be provided so your vet has a baseline for future testing. He is on monthly preventatives and has been de-wormed. BRUNO does have an area on his back with thinning hair and a bald patch on the back of his leg, but this is starting to improve after being on flea/tick prevention and antibiotics. It doesn't bother him and with a healthy diet and lifestyle his hair will grow back as it should be.
 

A contract will need to be signed that BRUNO will be neutered at your own veterinarians earliest convenience. Payment will be arranged directly with the veterinarian and the cost of neuter will be no expense to adopters.

BRUNO is an extremely happy boy, he loves everyone he meets and has been great with other dogs. He is well-mannered, responsive, has learnt "sit" and loves to play with the other dogs in the kennels when he first arrived, he quickly learnt the dog door and now plays happily in the outside dog runs with his friends here at the rescue.

BRUNO walks on the leash, although there is room for improvement, he rides great in the car and is super happy. He has been exposed to kittens and was not interested in them at all. Of course in a home, when he has settled in and cats and darting around, might change things, however, for now he has no interest at all.

He is an intelligent boy and I am sure training will be enjoyable and easy. We are looking for a family that not only has the time and patience to help this boy transition to a new home and gain confidence in his new home and enjoy all the love and cuddles he has to share, but also an active family who can work with him and ensure he gets the lifestyle that he needs to keep him happy and healthy mentally and physically. He has not shown any interest in toys, which is most likely due to never having any.

Dogs have access and use dog doors to go outside, they will not know to let you know they need to go outside, so families must expect accidents and be prepared to teach your new dog to let you know when they need to go outside.

The rescue buys food in bulk, by the truck load and there are a variety of brands and flavours. None of the food given is less than a 4* food rating. There have not been issues with eating any of the varying foods. It is important that you do your research on the ingredients and speak to your vet or a nutritionist on grain vs grain free!

​You MUST understand that dogs need time to decompress and adapt to their new environment and home. It is a HUGE transition they make from the kill shelter, being vetted, on transport for 3 days and arriving in Maine where the temperature and such is very different to what they have only known. In rescue there is what is known as the "3 Point Rule" Days 1-3 your dog is stressed, anxious, confused as to where they are now. Weeks 1-3 your dog is adjusting, settling in, learning things. At the 3-month point, your dog understands they are home, and have built up a trusting relationship where they feel loved and secure.

Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx. 8 miles) and approx. 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend.
