REX was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs often have only 3 days to be saved. REX is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, heartworm/tick disease tested negative for all. He is de-wormed, monthly preventatives and microchipped. He weighs around 90 pounds and has an estimated date of birth 16 November 2018. We cannot say for sure what breed he is, so we expect families to do their own research on his look and size and decide what breed you think he is and if you have the lifestyle suitable for his needs.

* * * NO CATS or SMALL ANIMALS * * *

REX-AR has been adopted twice and sadly brought back both times due to having prey drive towards small animals cats and chickens. He is a hunting breed dog and so this should be expected. REX is great with other dogs and has been in kennels with dogs his own size, smaller and larger than him and also 3 months pups. He LOVES to chew on hooves, bones, nylabones and is quite content with this.

Other than his prey drive, the families were very happy with him, they were just not able or willing to work with the situation. REX first lived with a family with teenager children and went on walks around the neighbourhood and runs in a secure area, he was very well behaved, vert loving and affectionate. His second owner was a single man who did long runs and had him with him and so he was getting great amount of exercise and loved it.

REX is a big, strong boy who is high energy and can be stubborn if he thinks he can get away with it. He needs an active family who understands the hunting / working breed mentality and needs. He is very affectionate and loves cuddles and hanging out with his family. He is very content chewing on his bones or hooves and can keep himself entertained. He has been great with other dogs whilst here at the rescue, living in a communal area with several other large breed dogs.  Lots pictures and possible video's can be found on his page on the rescue website.

All dogs use dog doors to go out and do their business or to enjoy the cool, fresh weather in their dog runs or communal areas. We cannot say if a dog is house-trained, however, we expect families to understand that all dogs need a transition period and accidents could happen and training is most definitely needed.

The rescue buys food in bulk, by the truck load and there are a variety of brands and flavours. None of the food given is less than a 4* food rating in accordance with  dogfoodadvisor.com . There have not been issues with eating any of the varying foods. It is important that you do your research on the ingredients and speak to your vet or a nutritionist on grain vs grain free!

REX is available for adoption for an adoption fee of $50

This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food, general day to day cost of running a brick and mortar rescue and anything else that is needed.

Canadian families must confirm with the border that they are able to cross and have the required vaccines, documentation and anything else needed to enter the US. Also it is important to know that Canadian Customs charge 15% taxes on the adoption when you return into Canada.

If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the ADOPTION INFO tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.

Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.
