ORION was saved with his best friend/sibling, ATLAS, (who sadly died from pneumonia and complications due to him being in such bad shape) from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 dogs to be saved and transported to the rescue in Sebec, Maine. ORION is neutered, core vaccines, rabies, heartworm & tick disease tested, negative, de-wormed, monthly preventatives and micro-chipped. He has a date of birth of 27 June 2014.
ORION had been an owner surrender to the shelter with his brother/best friend ATLAS who sadly passed away due to his severe condition. ORION was very traumatized at this, but thankfully having other dogs around him has helped him carry on with life, however, I am sure he still misses him dearly. The person who surrendered them stated that the dogs wouldn't eat or drink - most likely because they had been starved and not been able to eat or drink - I can only imagine the suffering they endured.
Considering the condition that Orion is in and having lost his best friend Atlas, he has the sweetest personality and is just so desperate for love, affection and of course someone to play with him and his favourite toy - his tennis ball. He is starting to gain weight which will be a slow process due to how malnourished he is, however, progress is being made and with him playing and running, slowly over time his muscles will start to build and he will be able to do a lot more, but now he is happy being outside in the sun, with his friends and his toys.
ORION deserves a family that has all the time in the world for him. He needs a good nutricious diet, and added suppllements that would benefit his overall health. He needs a family that is active as he does love to play and he is already loving being out and able to run and play and this will obviously increase as he gains weight and muscle mass/strength. He is a very loving dog, who obviously craves affection and is very responsive and definitely wants to please.
ORION does have a mischevious curiosity with smaller dogs and so I do not trust him to be alone with them here at the rescue unless being monitored. For the most part he is fine, but then he has these playful moments that could be a little too much for smaller dogs/pups. For this reason, I wouldn't recommend him being with a family with small dogs or cats, unless he can be monitored at all times and the cats live seperately until it can be established he is good with them. He has never been aggressive at all with any other dog, however, a little bit overzealous and boistrious with them.
All dogs use dog doors to go out and do their business or to enjoy the cool, fresh weather in their dog runs or communal areas. We cannot say if a dog is house-trained, however, we expect families to understand that all dogs need a transition period and accidents could happen and training is most definitely needed.

ORION is available for an adoption fee of US $550.
This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of saving all of the dogs we do, the running, upkeep and maintenance of the rescue. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. All that is needed to take dogs into Canada is a copy of the adoption contract (receipt) and current rabies for pups over 3 months of age.

Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.
Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.
ALL Dogs are LOCATED AT THE RESCUE IN SEBEC, MAINE. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend.
