COLT was saved  from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 dogs to be saved and transported to the rescue in Sebec, Maine  COLT is neutered, core vaccines, rabies, heart-worm & tick disease tested negative, de-wormed, monthly preventatives and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 28 January 2015 and at the time of rescue in February 2020 weighed around 53 pounds. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely.

COLT arrived at the rescue on Tuesday, 25th February and has settled in his kennel. He is a shy boy who has slowly started to warm up. He is very gentle and once he feels safe he loves to get his ears scratched. He takes treats very gently and has been very well mannered. I think he is still figuring out where he is and what is happening but he chews on his hoof and enjoys hanging outside in the dog run in the cool Maine weather.

COLT would benefit from a family who would let him decompress and figure out where he is now. He has the sweetest personality and such a gentle nature. He deserves a family that is going to give him the life and love he deserves, adventures, going on walks, hikes, to the beach, trails all things new - to show him the love those big beautiful eyes are longing for. Although he is estimated to be around 5 years old he is still an active boy and will need training so that he understands what is expected from him, to learn his boundaries and whilst training both family and dog can learn each others personalities and body language.

All dogs use dog doors to go out and do their business or to enjoy the cool, fresh weather in their dog runs or communal areas. We cannot say if a dog is house-trained, however, we expect families to understand that all dogs need a transition period and accidents could happen and training is most definitely needed.

All dogs are fed   Rachael Ray Nutrish PEAK Natural Dry Dog Food, Grain Free Western Grasslands Recipe with Bison.    Rachael Ray Nutrish Peak Dog Food receives the Dog Food Advisor’s second-highest tier rating of 4.5 stars.

WE ARE NOT ABLE TO COMMENT HOW HE WILL BE AROUND CATS OR LIVESTOCK.

COLT is available for adoption for an adoption fee of US $550.

This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food, general day to day cost of running a brick and mortar rescue and anything else that is needed. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada.

Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.
