BOOMER was an owner surrender on 1st September 2019 due to the fact that he and his sibling were starting to not get along and due to a fight between the brothers, Boomer was going to be euthanized. Neither siblings were neutered and so most likely hormones and common sibling rivalry. 

BOOMER is a handsome Foxhound who is neutered, just had his 3 year booster rabies vaccine, core vaccines, heartworm/tick disease tested negative, de-wormed, monthly heartworm and flea/tick prevention and micro-chipped He has an estimated date of birth of 25 August 2018 and weighs 65 pounds.

Following his neuter on 9th September 2019, Boomer went home to stay with a foster family who live in the Litchfield, Maine area, just south from Augusta and is acclimating well and the foster family adore him. 

Notes from his foster family:

BOOMER is a GREAT boy he is very affectionate, knows a few basic commands and loves to play. He definitely has that "hound" personality 
and likes the company of other dogs, children, and adults and is heartbroken when left alone. Boomer has not been acclimated to cats but I think he would do fine.  Hounds need a lot exercise and the foster family is currently working on leash and obedience training. Boomer is house trained and will let you know by whining or scratching at the door. 

At 65 pounds, Boomer is a strapping young hound and basically mild mannered in the home. Hounds can be independent and stubborn in nature, particularly if their nose is in pursuit of an outdoor smell. Boomer is lovable in nature and will definitely win you over with his charm, love and loyalty.

On intake from the rescue.

I was informed by the family giving him up that Boomer has lived with his sibling, another dog, two small children and his mum and dad and was a wonderful part of the family. He has never shown any aggression, was well behaved, house-trained, he would go on long walks, play frisbee, chew on bones and a Kong and LOVED people.

When Boomer arrived at the rescue he was clearly stressed, upset and unsure what was going on. He has never been away from his brother and of course being left by his dad whom he has lived with since he was a small puppy caused some anxiety. He did settle down after a while and met some of the dogs. Not being fixed when he arrived he was a bit "frisky" with some of the dogs and so it was best to keep him separate until he has been neutered. He is in the house with the dogs, just living at the other end, but he does lie and sit next to the gate dividing them and is doing great making friends this way. He is definitely a social boy and I am sure when neutered there will be no issues, his family said he was never a problem around dogs, animals or humans and had two very small human siblings whom he adored.

BOOMER needs a family that lives in the country or are very outdoorsy and active, where he has a lot of places to explore, however, working on training and recall would be extremely important before he is allowed to run loose because being a hound, he will most likely be very easily distracted and would most definitely chase after squirrels and wildlife. A family that can take him on daily runs in rural areas, would be a great for him and with no distractions of people or other dogs an enjoyable activity. He is used to living with a family and so when alone, he does have that loud hound bark/howl, so plenty of interaction and mental stimulation. BOOMER loves toys, if they have a squeak in all the better, he will play for hours happily and I am sure the puzzle toys for dogs would help keep him entertained. 

BOOMER is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $400. 

This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. BOOMER is located with a foster family in Litchfield, Maine (just south of Augusta). We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations  and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend.
