HERCULES was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas, he was scheduled to be killed but we saved him just before an untimely death. HERCULES is neutered, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative, and micro-chipped. When we saved him back in July he was had tested positive for heartworm disease, however, we had the treatment done and he spent the past few months recovering and has done great and recently tested NEGATIVE for the disease. There is no reason for him not to have a happy, healthy, active life. He has an estimated date of birth of 17 July 2014 and weighs around 75 pounds. He is listed as a German Shepherd Dog. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely.

Hercules has a happy-go-lucky  and  extremely pleasant personality  and  wants to get the most out of life. Playing catch is his favorite thing to do. He enjoys apple slices  and  chew toys but he loves his tennis balls  and  the Hartz squishy balls best of all. He is very interactive with people  and  great with everybody he has met. He gets along great with other dogs,  and  he LOVES swimming - he's a little fish. He lets you know when he has to go out to potty, or if the water bowl is empty. He is smart  and  just a great, happy, fun, active, sweet, affectionate  and  pleasant boy who loves playing catch  and  swimming  and  just loves life.

He must have had a broken front leg at some point. It does not seem to bother him at all, unless he bangs it funny on something or one of the other dogs steps on it when he's laying down  and  he might yelp. This has only happened maybe 5 times since hes been here. Otherwise he runs  and  prances  and  plays fine.
The ONLY negative thing about him is he will eat paper towels  and  Kleenex so garbage needs to be hidden.....

HERCULES has been near the foster family cat and was very curious but showed no aggression, he was never left alone with the car or exposed for long periods of time.

We do not recommend dog parks for several weeks, if not months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Although all GaDaH dogs are very well socialized with other dogs, lots of other dogs have not had the benefit of this socialization and do not always know how to play and act with other dogs. You also do not know the control the other families have over their dogs and you should always have a good recall for your adopted dog before going to dog parks.

HERCULES is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue which is located in Sebec, Maine, for an adoption fee of $550.

This fee covers the costs incurred by the rescue to save this precious soul and get her to the US. The fee is not negotiable. We post in other states and in Canada to ensure our saved dogs get as much exposure as possible and the perfect families are found. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed

If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.

Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.

HERCULES is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations  and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.
