TOMMY was saved from a horrible shelter that provides dogs for the legal meat trade in China in the Yiwi City area, two hours outside of Shanghai. He, was saved by a wonderful rescue lady in China and together we are working on getting as many dogs from the shelterl to the safety of GaDaH-CHINA in Sebec, Maine. We pay to get these dogs vetted, tested, quarantined and all other requirements to import them to the safety of the rescue in Sebec, Maine. The adoption fee's vary slightly depending on the weight and size of the dogs. TOMMY'S adoption fee is US $1,200 and covers the costs we incur to save these precious souls.
TOMMY has been through the export and import quarantine requirements from China to the US. He has his rabies, core vaccines/lepto, heartworm, tick-disease and screw worm tested negative. He has been de-wormed, micro chipped and received any necessary monthly preventatives. He has an estimated date of birth of 27 December 2017 and he weighs around 7 pounds. We believe he is a miniature schnauzer, but can not know for sure, it is up to you to look at him and decide what breed you think he could be. He arrived in the United States on 22nd August 2018, flying from Shanghai International airport, landing at JFK and then was driven up to the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We are looking for families with knowledge of experience of puppies and the miniature breed who are able to balance his needs and to ensure he gets a good balance of training, mental and physical exercise. We are not looking for someone to treat him like a baby or a toy.
WE DO NOT HAVE CATS OR LIVESTOCK AT THE RESCUE SO ARE UNABLE TO COMMENT ON HOW SHE WILL ACT NEAR OR AROUND THEM.
He does use the dog door to get in and out and does go outside to do his business. That is not to say he won't have the odd accident in his new home whilst he adjusts and gets used to his new routine and has his family teach him to let them know he wants to go outside.
When TOMMY was saved he was in horrendous shape, he had severe skin infections, he was full of worms and anemic. With proper medical treatment and keeping him hospitalized at the vet clinic, he has made a great recovery. He does still have some bold patches wher hopefully his hair will grow back and he will benefit from regular medicated, or oatmeal baths to help and encourage the hair growth.
TOMMY does cry out quite a lot, it seems he has had a lot of pain in his short life, if he thinks a dog is getting too close, or accidentally knocks him he yelps, he has started to get better, and the more he is kept exposed to other dogs and busy environments will help him to adjust and become the happy go lucky pup that he is all the time. He is a confident boy and will hold his own when he is playing with toys or has treats, he is not intimidated at growling at the bigger dogs, letting him know he won't be pushed around. He is temporarily in a kennel with his buddies Daisy and Velly and he is happy playing and snuggling up with them. He is a super sweet boy, but he is not a toy or a baby and we are looking for a family that will treat him as a dog and take him on walks and adventures, not push him around in a stroller and treat him like a baby!
TOMMY is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue which is located in Sebec, Maine, for an adoption fee of $1,200. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the extensive costs of vetting, quarantine requirements, documentation, flights and such to get him from China to Sebec, Maine.
We post in other states and in Canada to ensure our saved dogs get as much exposure as possible and the perfect families are found. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada.
Adoptive families MUST travel to the rescue in Sebec, Maine to meet and dog they are interested in adopting and if all goes well, take him/her home with them to start their new wonderful life.
