GRETTA was saved from a shelter in Texas. She is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. She has been estimated date of birth of 13 March 2015 and weighs around 28 pounds.

GRETTA was saved from a back- yard breeder where she had been living in horrific conditions, she had two puppies at the shelter, before she and her pups were transferred up to the rescue in Maine.

GRETTA was a good mum and shared the "maternity ward" with her friend Abbigail who had 4 puppies and as the pups got older, they would share watching the pups. When the pups were weaned GRETTA was happy to leave them to it and start to enjoy her life. She still spends a lot of time cuddling at night, but during the day she is having fun with her rescue friends.

GRETTA is a tough girl and will happily put any of the dogs in their place if they step out of line, no matter what breed or what size. She loves to play with the squeaky toys and is often pinching the puppies toys and keeping them for herself. GRETTA absolutely LOVED playing in the snow als.

GRETTA is very sweet and affectionate and loves to cuddle either beside me on the chair or on the back of the chair if there is no room. She is gentle and loving, but fun and spunky. She rides great in the car, but is not leash trained. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how she would be around them.

GRETTA is responsive, but she is in need of basic and advanced obedience training. We recommend this is done with the family so that GRETTA and her humans can all learn each others body language, personality, boundaries and expectations this also helps to build a strong bond and trust with each other. Formal training sessions are good for socialization and meeting other dogs and people.

GRETTA would benefit from a family that has time to take her on road trips, to places where she can explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. This will help not just with her physical exercise needs, but also her mental stimulation.

It is important to be aware of the potential problems that long bodies dogs have and be in a position to provide any and all necessary care, surgeries and such should she have problems as she gets older.

GRETTA is a sweet, confident girl who has had a horrible start to life, but is now finally able to enjoy herself. There is so much more a family can give her that she needs and deserves.

GRETTA is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500.

This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.

If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. GRETTA  is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. There is a local hotel in Dover-Foxcroft that is pet-friendly (approx 6 miles) and several in Bangor (approx 45 miles). There are also lots of wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.
