UNO was saved from Texas where most dogs in the kill shelters have 3 days to be saved before they are killed. UNO is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has been estimated date of birth of 25 February 2015 and weighs around 45 pounds.

UNO was surrendered to the shelter in Texas by his owner who bred him and informed the shelter he is a Border Collie / Poodle mix. All of his siblings died either at birth or shortly after and although UNO was no trouble to his owner, he didn't have the time to give him.

When UNO arrived at the rescue he was very quiet and dehydrated, he was given fluids and left in a quiet area to decompress and get used to his new temporary home and surroundings. 3-4 days on transport from Texas can take it's toll on some dogs. 24 hours later I was cooking a burger and suddenly UNO decided that he now felt wonderful - shared my burger and was excited to go outside and explore the snow with the rest of the dogs.

UNO is a chilled out boy when in the house, he will just hang out either on the sofa, or on the back of my chair, he is very responsive and well mannered. When we go out on the front for our pack-walk and playtime UNO seems to appear out of nowhere, so very excited and eager to get out and play. At first he was a little grumpy with some of the dogs, but that was most likely due to him not feeling great after the long road trip from Texas, now just a few days after being here, he has a best friend - JASPER - and both boys when outside chase and wrestle around in the snow.

UNO is great with all of the dogs here at the rescue ranging from 5 pound to 95 pounds. The shelter was informed that he is not good with cats, however, no other explanation given. They was also told he is great with kids and very sweet, which I can agree with.  We do NOT have cats on the rescue so I am not in a position to comment on how he will be with cats.

Out of the rescue environment I can see UNO being a great companion, I am sure he would love a home with another dog who he can wrestle and play with, with.  UNO would suit an active fun family who would take him on adventures and road trips and let him explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. He would benefit from a family that has the time to work with him on basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both UNO and his humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed.

We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page!

UNO is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of US $500

This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.

If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.

Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.

UNO is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. There is a local hotel in Dover-Foxcroft that is pet-friendly (approx 6 miles) and several in Bangor (approx 45 miles). There are also lots of wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.
