LIONEL was saved from Texas where dogs in the kill shelters have 3 days to be saved before they are killed. LIONEL is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 9 November 2015 old and at the time of rescue (December 2016) weighed around 51 pounds. LIONEL is very skinny and does need to gain a good amount of weight, which is best to be gradually over time in healthy manner.
LIONEL is a young boy that has either been clearly neglected of human interaction and possibly abused. When he first arrived at the rescue he really didn't know what to do or how to behave. With him being young and still growing into his body he has that goofy-clumsiness about him that just makes him all the more adorable. LIONEL is learning how to behave, but he is going to need a family with lots of love and patience to continue with his learning curve. He is enjoying getting lots of love and attention and when given a bath, although not to happy about he, he stood still and tolerated it. He has a great temperment and with the right training and guidance will make a fantastic family dog.
LIONEL gets on great with other dogs of all ages and sizes, we have 8 pound terriers up to 95 pound German shepherds, from 3 mths to 10 years and he is great with all of them respecting their age and size. LIONEL loves to run in the back field and is happy playing with the other dogs or entertaining himself with toys. He is really enjoying exploring and living a happy, safe life. We do NOT have cats at the rescue so we cannot say how he will be with cats.
We have dog doors in the house and
LIONEL
uses them to go out and play or to do his business, he wasn't at all house trained when he arrived, so it would be wise to expect the odd accident until he learns his new routine and to let you know he needs to go outside.
LIONEL
would benefit from an active, fun family that has the time to work with him on his obedience and manners, who would take him on adventures and road trips and let him explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. He would benefit from a family that has the time to work with him on basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both
LIONEL
and his humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed.
We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page!
LIONEL
is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.

LIONEL
is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located inbetween two small towns, Dover-Foxcroft and Milo, both approximately 6 miles away and the closest major city is Bangor (approx 45 miles). Many families travel and make a mini-vacation out of the trip and stay in beautiful Maine for the weekend, however, if this is not possible and there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.
